The Yankton County Commission had first reading of an ordinance that would raise the wheel tax by one dollar per wheel.

Commission Co-chair Joe Healy says it would help with road funding and put them in a better spot to get state bridge grants..

Commissioner Gary Swensen says he opposes any additional taxes..

Commissioner Dan Klimisch says he can see both sides of the issue…

The tax would raise about one hundred thirteen thousand dollars.
There was no action on the ordinance. Commissioners will vote at a meeting later this month.
