Talk about replacing a small township bridge led to a wider discussion about the state of roads and possible repair in Yankton County by the County Commission.
The bridge, with traffic counts of nineteen vehicles a day, is flooded at times by the James River and needs to be replaced.
The initial cost was about eighty five thousand dollars, but raising it out of the flood area would increase the cost to over one hundred thirteen thousand dollars.
Commissioner Donna Freng (frang) was not happy with that direction…..
Freng says she is concerned that there will be more project like that during the year…..
The county highway department overspent their budget by about six hundred thousand dollars last year due to unexpected repairs. Freng says that can’t happen again….
The commission asked for more information and better cost estimates on the bridge before they approve it.
