The Yankton City Commission has set a special election for December 11th. The date was approved at a special meeting Monday.

Citizens had passed petitions referring the fourteen million dollar opt out to an election.

The property tax opt out would be used to build an aquatic center in Memorial Park.

Mayor Nathan Johnson says he hopes the debate stays centered on the issues…

The Commission voted unanimously last month to support the opt out. Johnson says they have made their position clear…

Johnson says it is difficult to lay out all the exact costs of a “quality of life” project…

A group called “Dive in Yankton” has been working for almost two years on an education and fundraising drive for the aquatic center.
