Yankton City Commission Passes Ordinance Closing Businesses, Restricting Public Gatherings

After an almost four-hour special meeting, the Yankton City Commission passed an emergency ordinance that would order bars and restaurants to close their seating areas and offer only carry out options and limit public gatherings.

Mayor Nathan Johnson says they got a lot of mixed opinions on their options….

Johnson says they had been waiting for action from Governor Kristi Noem…..

Johnson says they hope they don’t need the police to enforce the closings…..

The ordinance goes into effect at midnight Wednesday. Violations of the law are misdemeanors.
