The Yankton City Commission decided to move ahead with a replacement project for the Pine Street bridge. Load limits have been in effect for the bridge for a number of years due to its condition.
The commission debated replacement as opposed to repairs due to the historic design of the bridge.
Commissioner Jake Hoffner says they should take some time to come up with a historic design…..
Mayor Charlie Gross told Hoffner they are facing a tight timeline…..
Debbie Bailey, during public comments, argued for preservation of the old design…..
The commission then approved the replacement project. The state will pay about eight hundred fifty thousand dollars with the city paying about six hundred forty thousand dollars. The state bid letting is in October.
