Yankton City Commission Approves Utility Rate Hikes

The Yankton City Commission this week approved rate increases for solid waste, water and wastewater. Solid waste and water will each increase three percent while wastewater rates will go up five percent.
City Manager Amy Leon says they need a higher rate for wastewater because of an impending major improvement project..

Leon says they need a high enough rate to pay back a loan from the state….

Leon says there will be more rate increases in the future…Yank

The city already got a nine-million-dollar federal grant to help pay for part of the upgrades.
