The Yankton City Commission held a special meeting Monday night to talk about options with the old and new water treatment plants.
Planning is underway for construction of a new water treatment plant that would replace a facility that dates to 1929.
Commissioner Nathan Johnson says they decided to consolidate the treatment plant in one location……

Commissioner decided on a plan that could cost from thirty-three to thirty-seven million dollars. Johnson says its better to spend it on the front end….

To pay for the project, Johnson says water rates will have to rise again……

That will add to the current surcharge of fifteen ninety one a month. Johnson says they hope to bid out the project early next year.
