Yankton City Commission Approves Move to Single Stream Recycling

The Yankton City Commission this week approved a solid waste rate increase that will move toward single stream recycling.
City Manager Amy Nelson says the increase will pay for the necessary equipment to move to single stream…

The increase will be just over three dollars a month.
The city has applied for a state grant to fund much of the equipment purchase. City Finance Officer Al Viereck told the commission they should hold off on rolling back the monthly rate increase until they get a handle on the operating costs, even if the city gets the state grant…..

Nelson says the goal is to have the new system in place next spring…..

She says they are tentatively looking at a May first state.
