A positive identification has been made on a body that was found in downtown Yankton Monday.
Following an autopsy Wednesday, the victim was identified as 39-year-old David Courtney, according to a news release from Yankton Police Chief Brian Paulsen
The preliminary cause of death was determined to be positional asphyxiation, and no foul play is suspected at this time.
Courtney’s body was discovered in a 9-inch gap between two buildings in the 100 block of W. 3rd St. it was determined he’d been there for at least a couple months.
The identification was made utilizing dental records and distinct tattoos.
Paulsen says Courtney had been missing since January.
The search for a missing Sioux Falls woman will continue today (Thursday).
The Sioux Falls Police Department is searching for 66 year old Diane Jane Bartling, who was last seen in Sioux Falls at 1 p.m. Sunday. The search shifted to Yankton when Bartling’s car and personal effects were discovered near the Meridian Bridge.
According to a release sent by Paulsen Wednesday, no progress was made on the search.
Paulsen said “Yankton Dive and Rescue along with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, searched near the Meridian Bridge for approximately four hours (Wednesday) with negative results,”.
He says the search will resume today and into next week, if need be.
