XtendFlex soybeans received approval this week from the European Commission for food, feed, import and processing. Channel technical agronomist Derek Crompton, says with this authorization, Bayer can now sell the product commercially in the U.S. and Canada in 2021.
He has been evaluating the Channel XtendFlex soybeans this season and says the technology provides a two to four bushel yield advantage in field trials in the region.
Crompton says XtendFlex® soybeans provide tolerance to dicamba glufosinate and glyphosate so farmers also have flexibility in managing tough-to-control weeds.
The addition of glufosinate as a post emergent option also aids in the risk of off-target drift. It also adds more certainty as the industry doesn’t know if EPA will approve new registrations of the four over-the-top dicamba herbicides for the Xtend system.
