Xcel Energy is launching a new pilot program for owners of electric vehicles. Spokesman Kevin Schwain says the program aims to make it easier and more affordable for a customer to set up their home for car charging.

Schwain says there are currently about six thousand customers in Minnesota who drive electric vehicles and that number is growing fast. The new two-year pilot program will enroll up to 100 participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. Anyone interested in joining the program can enroll xcelenergy.com starting at noon on Wednesday
