Now that South Dakota voters have legalized recreational and medicinal marijuana, there will be a scramble for the legislature and local governments to figure out the rules before the laws go into effect next July first.

The State of Colorado legalized marijuana sales in 2014.

Ginny Sawyer is a Project and Policy Manager for the City of Ft Collins and says there have several levels of licensing and enforcement that developed over several years..

Sawyer says they have some police assigned to working with the marijuana stores….

Sawyer says marijuana laws and regulations are complicated….

Sawyer says they have about a dozen stores selling marijuana and they have pretty much blended into their business community.
Sawyer says they collect sales tax from marijuana and that has been “pretty good” over the years.
