WOTUS Rewrite Looks Good Initially

South Dakota Farm Bureau members are studying the Waters of the United States rewrite proposal from the Environmental Protection Agency. President Scott VanderWal says they like what they see initially and think it’s much better than the 2015 rule put out during the Obama Administration.

He says it’s positive the new rule does not regulate ponds or ditches or ephemeral streams.

VanderWal says he’s encouraging not only Farm Bureau members, but all citizens, to make their comments known to the EPA when they hold their 60 day public comment period on the proposed rule.

VanderWal says the comment period hasn’t opened yet as the agency is working out some of the technicalities. However, he says it’s critical when it open everyone weighs in because it has a far-reaching impact.
