It is August and the start of school is right around the corner.  Dr. Meera Varman is a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Creighton University in Omaha and says along with getting all the supplies your kids need for the classroom it is also important to make sure your child returns to school with all updated vaccinations.  She says health officials are worried there could be outbreaks of illnesses once school starts.

Varman says it is also important that young adults get vaccinated before heading off to college.  Last May there were 21 cases of mumps at Midland University in Fremont

Varman says not vaccinating your child puts them at risk of catching serious health conditions that puts everyone at risk.
