This year’s winter wheat harvest is just getting underway in Nebraska with most of the early cutting starting in the South. Nebraska Wheat Board Executive Director Royce Schaneman says weather has been favorable so far and they’re hoping to avoid any severe weather during the harvest.
Schaneman says overall yields this year in the state should be above average.
However, he says the higher yields will translate into lower protein levels.
Schaneman says early in the growing season there were some signs of rust and fungal diseases, but that has now cleared up.
