This week’s blizzard in the Northern Plains is bringing more challenges for cattle producers, who’ve already had a tough winter season. SDSU Extension Beef Feedlot Management Specialist Warren Rusche says just getting feed out to animals is the immediate challenge, along with providing comfort for cattle.
He says producers must be careful when adjusting cattle rations because it can create a lot of issues.
Rusche says one of the bigger problems following the storm will be muddy lots.
Rusche says longer term, producers can look at improving drainage and mounds and pouring more concrete to minimize mud issues.
