Contractors are making substantial progress on the conversion of the PM Beef Packing Plant in Windom, Minnesota to a pork processing facility. Minnesota Pork Executive Director Dave Preisler says the plant renovations should be done by the target date of September. Investors, including business giant Glen Taylor, purchased the facility for $9.6 million and are investing $20 to $25 million on updates.

The plant is expected to focus on the Duroc breed and ractopamine-free hogs for the China market. Preisler says they’re excited to have this additional pork market in the state and this economic boost to the community.

The PM Beef Packing Plant closed in September of 2015 and was purchased by Taylor, farmer Jeff Ward and Pemberton based Strobel Farms.
