A farm advisory organization is urging livestock farmers to consider planting a windbreak around their livestock facilities to help control livestock odors. The Coalition to Support Iowa Farmers assists livestock producers with their planning of livestock facilities. Field Specialist Kody Havens explains the many benefits of having trees, bushes, and shrubs planted around livestock barns.
Havens says cost-share provisions are available for producers wanting to plant a windbreak around their livestock barns.
Havens says the purpose of the Coalition to Support Iowa Farmers is to advise them of the various environmental regulations. He says they work with farmers to share information as to the best types of trees to plant as well as the placement of the trees.
Havens says evergreen trees are usually the preferred trees to plant.
