This week the Lincoln County South Dakota Zoning and Planning Board recommended a change to their wind ordinance that calls for a mile setback for wind turbines. County resident Brian Minish, backer of the Dakota Power Community Wind project, says that kind of change will stop all wind development. He intends to keep pushing for the project when it comes up before the full Lincoln County Commission next month.
He says the recommendation only passed on a 4 to 3 vote and he thinks the full commission will recognize the value of the wind project. Minish says if its approved for the southern part of Lincoln County it will bring additional revenue to the county, the townships, the school districts and the state.
Minish says the Zoning and Planning Board hasn’t seen the scientific evidence that supports the Dakota Power Community Wind Project.
The first reading of the wind ordinance will be before the Lincoln County Commission on November 1 with the second reading held November 22.
