Dakota Power Community Wind is now two thirds towards its goal of raising the needed funding for its wind farm in Southern Lincoln County South Dakota. DPC spokesman Brian Minish says they’ve now raised over a million dollars for their project.
Minish says once completed they hope to supply power to the Rock Island Clean Line, a 500 mile direct current line designed to transfer up to 3500 megawatts of electricity generated in the tri state area to Chicago, Illinois and East Coast states by 2017. He says there are multi benefits to their wind project that will help create economic development as well as support local tax rolls.
Minish says potential revenue from turbines to landowners could run between $ 6 million and $ 7 million annually. State gross production annual tax receipts may reach over $ 4.5 million. And statewide direct economic impacts could be more than $ 200 million.
