Wind Company Gets Second Chance for Weather Towers

The Lincoln County South Dakota Commission has decided to give a wind company another chance to apply for a permit for their weather towers. Dakota Power Community Wind is looking at possibly building a wind farm in Lincoln County, but first needs to determine if it’s feasible. An earlier request by the company was turned down by county officials, but it was determined they applied for the wrong permit. Brian Minish with Dakota Power Community Wind is pleased they have another opportunity to move forward.

Minish feels they have a better chance at getting approval this time around.

Opponents to the project convinced the earlier denial on the weather towers due to concerns about property values, health impacts and nuisances. Minish says there’s a big difference between the weather towers and the eventual wind project which isn’t under debate at this time. His group is hoping to meet with the Commission next month.
