As more people build homes in the hilly, wooded areas of eastern Nebraska, the threat of wildfires increases.

Jorden Smith is the new Wildland Urban Interface Forester, headquartered at the Lewis & Clark NRD in Hartington….

Smith says he will work with home and land owners to be fire smart with their development……

Smith says the large wildfires in the west could be a preview of what could happen to points further east….

His job, one of two in the state, is funded with a three-year grant to the University of Nebraska from the US Department of Agriculture.
