South Dakota State University wide receiver Jake Wieneke was named Sunday as co-Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

A junior from Maple Grove, Minnesota, Wieneke caught eight passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns as the Jackrabbits’ upset bid fell short against a nationally ranked TCU squad.

Wieneke’s first touchdown reception covered 31 yards and gave SDSU a 24-21 lead late in the first half. He added a 34-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter and also tallied a 52-yard reception in the fourth.

For Wieneke, it was his 15th career 100-yard receiving game and eighth multi-touchdown game. In 27 career games, Wieneke has caught 29 touchdown passes and has 3,072 career receiving yards, becoming the third SDSU player in program history to top 3,000 yards receiving.

The Jackrabbits return to action Sept. 10 by hosting Drake in the inaugural game at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
