Parts of eastern and southeast Nebraska are seeing an increase in the confirmed cases of whooping cough. Dr. Katie Vollmuth is a pediatrician at CHI Health – Alegent Creighton Clinic in Gretna and says whooping cough, also known as pertussis, is highly contagious.

Vollmuth says as of Monday health officials had confirmed 215 cases.

She says the best prevention is to follow a vaccination schedule.
