The OpenSky Policy Institute wanted to check out the perception by folks in urban Nebraska that they subsidize taxes for those living in rural areas. Executive Director Renee Fry says they found out the opposite is true.
Fry says the value of agriculture and ranch land has skyrocketed in recent years and that contributed to this imbalance of taxes paid.
Fry says most urban residents believe they subsidize taxes for their rural counterparts.
This information has been turned over to the legislature to address as they get ready to open a new session.
