Whiteclay Liquor Store Battle Continues

The battle of the Whiteclay liquor stores continues as the issue was taken up by the Nebraska Supreme Court this week.  Last May the Liquor Control Commission ruled there was not enough law enforcement in the community to provide safe alcohol sales.  That decision was reversed by a Lancaster County District judge.  The owners of the liquor store presented their case in front of the Nebraska Supreme Court.  District 43 State Senator Tom Brewer remains on the side of the Liquor Control Commission.

Brewer says that part of the world is a better place because the liquor stores are closed.  He says there are no longer intoxicated people on the streets and the number of accidents and deaths have been reduced.  He says quality of life conditions also improved on the neighboring Pine Ridge Reservation.

Brewer hopes alcohol never returns to Whiteclay.

The decision by the Nebraska Supreme Court could take several months.
