A “White Pirogue” similar to what was used on the Lewis & Clark Expedition returned to the Missouri River.

Butch Bouvier of Council Bluffs Iowa set up his replica in Riverside Park in Yankton and hosted an educational program for hundreds of students from South Dakota and Nebraska.

Bouvier says they like to bring their living history to the students….

Bouvier has a lot of experience in building and sailing similar boats…

Bouvier says he studied the history of Lewis & Clark and built the boat so a buffalo could climb across it, as happened during the journey…..

Bouvier sailed the pirogue to Springfield, then had to put it on a trailer due to the high winds that blew across the area.
