The National Corn Growers Association and National Farmers Union released a white paper showing how EPA’s Renewable Fuels Standard proposal is threatening farm income. The weakened proposal has shuttered several ethanol plants, at the same time USDA is projecting cash income for farmers to decline by 26 percent. National Corn Growers President Chip Bowling says now is not the time to break America’s commitment to the RFS, which has had a positive economic impact.

He says the white paper shows the RFS has been one of the main drivers of the farm economy. And if the EPA’s volume level plan is finalized, farm income will drop even further.

Bowling says they are calling on EPA to adopt a robust RFS. Otherwise the corn ethanol industry will be harmed, as well as advanced biofuels.

The group’s white paper also shows that advanced biofuels have already suffered a $13.7 billion shortfall in investment because of uncertainty surrounding the RFS.
