White mold disease and gall midge are starting to show up in Southwest Minnesota soybean fields. University of Minnesota Integrated Pest Management Specialist Bruce Potter says they’ve been increasing in numbers in the past few weeks along with a new species of gall midge that’s feeding on the white mold.
He says the gall midge showing up is the biggest problem.
Potter says there isn’t much producers can do to treat for the gall midge but there are fungicides available for those fields experiencing high levels of white mold.
Potter says anyone needing assistance can get in touch with him at the Southwest Minnesota Research Center in Lamberton.
