The Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Plus program or WHIP Plus was rolled out earlier this fall nationally to help producers impacted by adverse weather this year. The Nebraska Farm Service Agency is reminding producers they can sign up now for assistance. Bobbi Kriz Wickham with the Nebraska FSA says help is now available for those who suffered crop losses from natural disasters.
She says even if you’re in an area that didn’t receive a federal or secretarial disaster declaration, you may still be eligible for WHIP plus aid and you should check with your county FSA officials about that.
Wickham says it’s important to note that if you get a WHIP plus payment you’ll still need to sign up for federal crop insurance for a two year period or NAP coverage.
Wickham says they haven’t yet set a deadline for sign up under the WHIP plus program She adds that dairy producers may apply for help through the milk loss program at county FSA offices.
