The Wheat Quality Council’s Hard Red Winter Wheat Tour wrapped up in Kansas on Thursday. Council Executive Director Dave Green says the three-day average yield for the fields was calculated at 47.2 bushels an acre, much better than last year’s average.
He says of the wheat that got planted in the central part of Kansas was late, so it wasn’t nearly as good as in the west. Green says the tour projected wheat production in Kansas at 306.5 million bushels.
Green says Nebraska was a different story as the estimate for their wheat crop is 47.4 million bushels down from 49. 5 million bushels last year. He says however they’re still expecting a good crop at harvest.
He says the estimated yield in Colorado was 46.5 bushels per acre. With production at 97.2 million bushels, up from 70.5 million bushels last year.
