The Wheat Quality Council’s Spring Wheat tour of North Dakota, Northern South Dakota and parts of Minnesota wrapped up Thursday with an average of 29 bushels per acre, down 14 BPA from 2019. There wasn’t a tour last year due to the pandemic. Council Executive Director Dave Green says the best yield they saw was on Thursday compared to the first two days.
He’s sure some wheat acres will be abandoned but just how much he doesn’t know.
Green says what’s encouraging is that the test weights and protein are good from what they observed on the tour.
Green says Millers were relieved that the test weights and protein levels were better than they expected and even though it’ll be a smaller crop, at least it will have value.
