Wheat producers, researchers, grain millers and end users are looking at new research and technology to improve wheat quality at the 2022 Wheat Quality Council Annual Meeting this week in Kansas City. South Dakota Wheat Commission Executive Director Reid Christopherson says they continue to work with land grant institutions on wheat research and breeding to yield a higher quality product.
He says it can take years to get a new wheat variety in production that can result in a high-quality product for the marketplace.
Christopherson says wheat’s market share has declined over the years which is a real challenge, especially with the acreage battle that is currently underway.
He says they’re also getting updates on the latest technology in wheat milling and processing at the meeting.
