Wheat groups from the United States, Canada and Mexico are all urging negotiators to reach a successful conclusion to the NAFTA discussions. National Association of Wheat Growers President Gordon Stoner says the fact wheat produces and end users from all three countries are speaking with one voice about the importance of NAFTA should send a clear message to U.S. leaders.

He says when the NAFTA discussions began, negotiators were urged to do no harm to the deal. However, now it’s do no more harm as U.S. wheat growers are already losing some markets.

Stoner says the latest round of NAFTA discussions, haven’t resulted in any gains for the U.S. wheat industry.

In their letter to negotiators, the wheat groups said that an integrated supply chain between the three countries is only effective with NAFTA in place.
