Rail backlogs and an expected heavy harvest in the Northern Plains has several producers on edge. South Dakota Wheat Commission Executive DIrector Reid Christopherson says he’s heard of some producers already storing wheat on their operations and he expects that problem to get worse as harvest progresses.
Should producers just hold onto their wheat and wait for a better price? Christopherson says that depends on each producer and their individual situation.
Christopherson says if you have to store your grain make sure and keep in close touch with your local elevator.
Christopherson says yields so far during winter wheat harvest are looking good and the crop has been very healthy with just a few cases of scab showing up.
