The South Dakota Wheat Commission is backing rail rehabilitation from Chamberlain West to Presho.  Wheat Commission Executive Director Randy Englund says the project covers needed rail service right in the heart of a major wheat production area of the state and is needed for both the ag and overall state economies.

Englund says South Dakota officials are trying to obtain federal funding assistance for the project.

He says the Wheat Commission is providing matching funding for the rail upgrade based on receiving the federal grant.

Englund says once completed the rail project will spur major economic development that will create new jobs, generate substantial tax revenue for the state and pay dividends for future generations.
