This week the President released his proposed 2018 agriculture budget which calls for eliminating funding for USDA’s Market Access and Foreign Market development programs. U.S. Wheat Associates officials are very concerned about that. Steve Mercer with Wheat Associates says those two programs have been critical to the export success for American wheat.
He says if the President’s budget proposal holds up and MAP and FMD are eliminated then the U.S. will lose market access for wheat.
Mercer says without MAP and FMD, wheat prices will be negatively effected.
He says that coupled with an already depressed ag economy will be devastating for U.S. wheat growers.
