The U.S. Wheat Associates announced it’s closing its office located in Cairo,Egypt in December. Wheat Associates Steve Mercer says part of the reason for the closure is that Egypt has been purchasing lesser quality wheat for a cheaper price.
He says wheat produced in the U.S. is high quality and now Wheat Associates is focusing on customers that want that high quality product and aren’t afraid to pay for it.
Mercer says while the U.S. isn’t giving up on the Middle East and North African markets, they are focusing on Asian and Latin American customers that want high quality wheat.
Mercer says just because they’re closing the Cairo office doesn’t mean they’re giving up on Middle East and North African markets. He says U.S. Wheat Associates still has offices in Casablanca, Morocco and Rotterdam Holland and they will be traveling to Egypt to serve that market.
