At the American Farm Bureau Convention this week, President Donald Trump voiced support for increasing the ag labor force for farmers. Western Iowa Dairy Alliance Executive Director Scott Shroeder is hoping that leads Congress to pass an immigration bill. He says last year his group worked with former Congressman Bob Goodlatte on his H2-C measure.

He says there’s a major ag labor shortage in northwest Iowa and there’s competition for the workers that are available.

Schroeder says his organization will be working with the state’s Congressional delegation to get some type of ag labor legislation passed this year.

Schroeder says some type of H2-C legislation will be needed as it includes year round workers, while the current H2-A program only helps those who need seasonal labor.
