The weekend storm that brought over a foot of snow in some places in West River South Dakota did not have the drastic effects of the Atlas Blizzard two years ago. SDSU Extension Beef Specialist Ken Olson says this storm was positive in that it didn’t have the chilling or heavy winds that Atlas did.
Olson while admitting he’s not a meteorologist or climatologist says the type of snow that came down is good in that it’ll help replenish dry pastures. He says while many producers had finished or were just finishing calving there are some producers who do their calving in June.
