West Nile Virus Found in Mosquitoes in Northeast Nebraska

There has been only a handful of West Nile infections reported in Nebraska so far, but the skeeter season is far from over.

Deb Scholten, Director of the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department in Wayne says the mosquitoes that carry West Nile will be active until the first hard frost….

Scholten says the number of infections has been on a downward trend since it was first found about fifteen years ago…..

She says West Nile can have serious complications….

Scholten says they found some mosquitoes carrying the virus for the first time this summer, in their trap near Ponca this week.
