Transportation officials are concerned that a recent truckers strike on the West Coast could have a negative impact on shipment of goods into and out of Ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says currently there are no major disruptions but concern is there could be in the future.
Steenhoek says the timing of this problem with the truckers is not good in that officials are still trying to clear up a backlog of exports created by an earlier Port Strike that was settled in February.
Steenhoek says what’s really disturbing is that a few are holding up an important industry that relies on exports.
Steenhoek says many of these truckers on strike don’t want to be considered as contract workers but as full time employees so they can unionize. He says pushing them is the Teamsters Union.
