No. 3 Cornerstone (Mich.) captured its third national title as they defeated No. 5 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) 66-45 in the championship game of the 2015 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship.
The game was played at the Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo.
This marks the third national title for the Golden Eagles’, also winning it 1999 and 2011, and they tie Bethel (Ind.) and Oregon Tech for the most national championships at the Division II Championship. Cornerstone now has 32 wins all-time at the championship, second only to Oregon Tech (33). They finish the season with a 33-5 record.
Cornerstone’s defense was the story, limiting Dakota Wesleyan to season-low’s in field goal percentage (23%) and points (45). The 45 points is the lowest scored in a Division II Championship game and tied for fifth lowest score ever at the entire championship.
Jalen Voss was the only Dakota Wesleyan player in double figures, scoring 20 points on 7-of-19 from the field. Dakota Wesleyan finishes the year with a school record in wins at 32-5.
