South Dakota State women’s soccer’s Maggie Smither was named Summit League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Smither earned her first ever Player of the Week award after putting together 90 shutout minutes in the net over two games.
Smither had five saves total over the two games, logging one save against North Dakota and four against Creighton while facing 10 shots against the Bluejays. Smither also recorded her first two career starts and has yet to allow a goal with 14 saves over 200 total minutes this season.
“Maggie has really been playing with confidence and it’s great to see her honored this week,” head coach Lang Wedemeyer said. While Smither earned the defensive honors, Fort Wayn’es Kalliane Mogler and North Dakota State’s Holly Enderle split the offensive award.
South Dakota State hits the road this weekend for two road games, traveling to Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 9 before closing the weekend at Green Bay on Sunday, Sept. 11.
