Over the weekend severe thunderstorms wreaked havoc on the town of Woonsocket, SD, and surrounding areas.
Jonathan Linke, a farmer from Woonsocket, says that the hail damage to crops was extensive.
“There were quite a few acres, a stretch of probably three to four miles wide that encompassed 10 to 15 miles long that pretty much completely wiped out the crops,” Linke said. “Basically 100% loss on those acres, even the grass in the road ditches looks like it’s been grazed down to nothing.”
Just before the storm he said the crops had been benefitting from good July rains.
“Everything was coming along really well… a lot of that corn was right at tassel so really critical time we’d been having good weather for,” Linke said. “And those crops that did not receive any damage are looking really, really good. They’re looking like some of the best crops we’ve ever had.”
