The South Dakota State Fair gets underway this week in Huron on Thursday and runs through September 6. SDSU Extension will be hosting a pair of booths dealing with weeds and the effects of this year’s drought. SDSU Extension Weed Science Coordinator Paul Johnson says they’ll be taking weed questions related to this year’s drought and talking about how producers dealt with a lot of Canada Thistle this year.

He says it was tough to control weeds this year with the lack of moisture available to help generate that control.

Johnson has some tips for producers to consider when getting ready to control weeds for next year and some methods they can start with during this year’s harvest.

Johnson invites all to stop by their weed booths where they’ll have several sample weeds on display.

Johnson says they’ll also have a lawn and garden area and will welcome questions on those weeds.
