It looks like weather trends may turn more positive for the northern plains into early summer.
Jim Angel is the Illinois state climatologist, and did the monthly “Central US Climate Outlook.”

He says South Dakota is seeing a much wetter trend.

The weekly drought monitor also reflected the improvement in moisture levels across much of eastern South Dakota.

Angel says they are now seeing solid signs of an El Nino development.

Angel says the El Nino effect is really seen in the long range outlook for December, January and February.

Angel says the trend into early summer for the northern plains is for temperatures near normal, with above normal precipitation.
