The cooler, wet conditions have slowed down the start of the Nebraska winter wheat harvest, but you could still see some farmers in the field as early as next week. The crop is 99 percent headed and the recent late rains helped finish out the grain fill period for many fields. Executive Director of the Nebraska Wheat Board Royce Schaneman says they are expecting slightly higher wheat yields compared to a year ago.
Shaneman says total production for the state will be better than winter wheat production areas farther south.
Shaneman says the only concern farmers have is lower protein levels and lower prices.
