WE CARE South Dakota is encouraging Lincoln County, South Dakota voters to get informed prior to the special election on the setback ordinance on wind projects. The current setback is a half mile, but that requirement was referred to a vote on July 18 by backers of the Dakota Power Community Wind Project. Winnie Peterson of WE CARE South Dakota, which opposes that project, says the present setback requirement is more lenient that what’s required for most wind systems.

She says the current half mile setback for wind projects is a workable and reasonable standard.

Peterson says it’s important voters are well educated before they cast their vote.

Peterson says her group supports the present ordinance and will encourage their members to vote for it.
