WCB Farmers Estimate Yield on Possible Record Crop

Western Corn Belt row crops continue to be on pace for record yields. Curt Hoffbeck is a field agronomist for Pioneer covering east central South Dakota and southwestern Minnesota…and he says farmers can easily determine if they’ll will have record corn yields on their own farm.

Hoffbeck says with deep kernel set this season that will produce larger kernels and that could add another 20 bushels per acre to corn yields. As far as soybean yield, he says that is a bit more difficult to estimate.

And right now crop maturity is also running about normal and so farmers are starting to cut silage in some areas.

With the cool, wet August there are some soybean diseases that have emerged, such as white mold, which could impact yield. In the corn farmers are seeing some scattered Goss’s Wilt.
